You are never locked in. The clean sequence for switching — overlap, records, notice — and what to do when a provider makes leaving difficult.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change providers mid-plan?
Yes. You do not need to wait for a plan review or plan renewal to change providers. You can change at any time, provided you follow the notice requirements in your service agreement.
What if my new provider costs more per hour than my old one?
You can choose a more expensive provider, but you will need to manage the impact on your total funding. If costs are rising and your plan may not stretch far enough, talk to your support coordinator or plan manager about adjusting your support hours or exploring whether a plan review is appropriate.
Can I have more than one provider for the same support type?
Yes. For example, you could have two different community participation providers and split your hours between them. Each needs a separate service agreement, and if you are agency-managed, you will need separate service bookings for each.
What if my provider refuses to let me leave?
No provider can legally prevent you from ending a service arrangement. They can enforce a notice period that you agreed to, but beyond that they have no right to retain you as a client. If a provider is obstructing your transition, contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission or a disability advocacy service.
