Frequently asked questions
- Does my child need a diagnosis to access the Early Childhood Approach?
- No. You can contact an Early Childhood Partner with a concern about your child's development, even before any formal assessment or diagnosis. The partner can provide some initial support and help you navigate the diagnostic and NDIS access process.
- Can my child access the ECA if they are already receiving private therapy?
- Yes. Having private therapy does not exclude your child from the ECA or from NDIS funding. The NDIS planner will consider what gaps exist between your child's needs and what is currently being funded by other means.
- What if my child's condition is not yet confirmed as permanent?
- The NDIA can grant access on the basis of a significant developmental delay even without a confirmed permanent disability for children under nine. Your Early Childhood Partner can guide you through the evidence requirements.
- How long does the NDIS access process take for young children?
- Processing times vary, but the NDIA aims to complete access decisions within 21 days of receiving a complete access request. Complex cases may take longer. Your Early Childhood Partner can follow up on your behalf if there are delays.
