Frequently asked questions
- Is the I-CAN assessment compulsory?
- Yes, for participants going through the planning process under the new framework, the I-CAN assessment is part of the standard process. If you have concerns about the assessment format or need adjustments to how it is conducted, you can request accommodations.
- Will my existing plan be affected by the new system?
- Existing plans continue until their review date. When your plan is due for review under the new framework, the I-CAN assessment process will apply. If your current plan is up for renewal, you should begin preparing for the I-CAN assessment well in advance.
- Can I bring someone to support me in the I-CAN assessment?
- Yes. You are entitled to have a support person present, including a family member, carer, support worker, or advocate. Having someone who knows your daily functioning well can help ensure the assessment captures a complete picture of your needs.
- What if my needs change significantly between plan periods?
- Under the new framework, you can request a plan variation or review before the end of the plan period if your circumstances or needs change significantly. Document the change carefully and seek advice from your support coordinator or an advocacy service.
