Frequently asked questions
How long is an NDIS plan usually?
There is no single fixed length. Most plans run for 12 months, 2 years or 3 years, and the NDIA decides based on how stable your situation is. Under the coming new framework, plans are designed to run longer with fewer reviews. Check your own end date in the myplace portal.
Does my unused NDIS funding roll over to the next plan?
Generally no. NDIS funding does not carry over — each plan stands on its own, so unspent money in an ending plan is not added to the new one. The best approach is to spend steadily against your actual needs across the whole plan period, rather than rushing near the end date.
What is the difference between a plan rollover and a plan reassessment?
A rollover simply extends your existing plan, usually on the same funding and without a full meeting, so your supports continue unchanged. A reassessment (the new word for a review) is a fresh look that can result in a new plan with different funding. If you get a letter, check carefully which one it is.
Will my plan just stop when it reaches the end date?
The NDIA aims to avoid gaps, so it should contact you before your end date to either roll your plan over or arrange a reassessment, and your supports are meant to continue meanwhile. Don't rely on the timing though — if your end date is near and you've heard nothing, call the NDIA on 1800 800 110.
Are plans getting longer under the NDIS reforms?
That is the direction. From a planned start of 1 April 2027 (progressively to the end of 2030), the new framework introduces longer plans with fewer reviews, alongside tighter rules on unscheduled reassessments. These dates have shifted before, so confirm the current timing with the NDIA before making decisions.
