Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay for a support coordinator myself?
No. Support coordination is paid from your NDIS plan, but only if it is funded in your plan under your capacity building budget. If it is not funded, you do not pay privately; instead you can use your Local Area Coordinator for free help, or ask the NDIA about having coordination included at your next plan reassessment.
What is the difference between a support coordinator and a plan manager?
A support coordinator helps you understand your plan, find providers and get supports working. A plan manager handles the money side, paying your provider invoices and tracking your budget. They are different roles with separate funding, and some people have both. You can choose different organisations for each if you prefer to keep them independent.
Can I change my support coordinator if it is not working out?
Yes. You do not need the NDIA's permission to switch coordinators. End your current service agreement properly, giving any notice you agreed to, then set up a new agreement with someone else. It is a normal thing to do, and a good coordinator will not take it personally. Your funding stays the same; only who delivers the service changes.
Will the NDIS reforms take away my support coordination?
The reforms are reshaping how plans are built and how some budgets are set, not removing essential care. Support coordination sits within the new planning framework rolling out from 1 April 2027, and capacity-building allocations are being reduced by around 10 percent as plans renew. Your actual impact depends on your current usage, so confirm your own details with the NDIA on 1800 800 110 rather than assuming an outcome.
How many hours of support coordination will my funding cover?
That depends on the dollar amount in your plan and the hourly rate your coordinator charges under the NDIS price limits. Ask any coordinator to estimate how many hours your funding is likely to cover before you sign up, so you can plan how to use those hours across the life of your plan. Your plan manager or self-managed records will show how much is left as you go.
