Frequently asked questions
Can I move money between my NDIS budget categories?
It depends on the category. Core supports are highly flexible, so you can usually move spending between most Core sub-categories as your needs change. Capacity Building and Capital funding are fixed to their purpose and generally cannot be moved. If you are unsure what you can shift, ask your plan manager or support coordinator, or check the myplace portal.
What happens if I spend my NDIS budget too fast?
If you exhaust a category before your plan ends, the NDIA does not automatically add more. You may be able to request a plan reassessment if your support needs have genuinely changed, but you will need supporting evidence, and reassessment rules are becoming stricter. The best protection is checking your spending each month against your weekly pace so you catch a problem early.
Does leftover NDIS money roll over to my next plan?
Generally no. Unused funding does not carry over, and consistent underspending can signal that you needed less than was funded, which may affect your next plan. If you are leaving a lot unspent, it usually means your supports are not set up well rather than that you do not need them. A support coordinator can help you use the funding you have.
Are the 2026 changes going to cut my daily support budget?
The participation reset from 1 October 2026 reduces allocations for social, civic and community participation supports as plans renew. Critical daily-living and personal-care supports are not part of this reset. How much it affects you depends on how much of the participation supports you currently use. Check your new allocations when your plan renews and confirm the details with the NDIA.
How do I know if a provider is charging a fair NDIS price?
Check the provider's quoted rate against the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, which set the maximum for many supports. A provider should not charge above the cap for a given support. Ask for hourly rates plus any travel, cancellation or reporting fees in writing before you commit, and compare a few providers on both price and fit.
