Frequently asked questions
Will my whole NDIS plan be cut from October 2026?
No. The change from 1 October 2026 targets the social and community participation budget, and it phases in as your plan is reassessed or renewed — not all at once. Critical daily-living and personal-care supports are not part of this reset. How much your own plan changes depends on how much community participation support you currently use, so check with the NDIA about your specific situation.
Is my personal care and daily living support safe?
The government has said critical daily-living and personal-care supports — like help with showering, dressing and meals — are not affected by the participation reset. Those supports still have to be reasonable and necessary as always, but they are separate from the community participation reductions. If your plan is mostly personal care, you may see little change from this particular measure.
What can I do if my community participation funding drops?
Ask the NDIA for the decision in writing and request an internal review if you disagree. If it is still unresolved, you can go to the Administrative Review Tribunal, and there is extra appeals-advocacy funding in 2026-27 to help. A disability advocate or support coordinator can help you show why a support is reasonable and necessary for you.
Are the dates definitely going ahead?
Some of these measures are legislated and some depend on the 'Securing the NDIS for Future Generations' Bill, and the timeline has already shifted once. The best move is to confirm current dates on ndis.gov.au or with your planner or support coordinator before you make any decisions about your supports.
Will there be other services to replace what's cut?
Partly. The Inclusive Communities Fund ($200 million over three years, with consultation from July 2026) and broader Foundational Supports are meant to provide community activities outside the NDIS. Whether these services are up and running in your area by the time your funding reduces is a fair thing to ask your Local Area Coordinator about.
