Frequently asked questions
What qualifications do I need for specialist support coordination?
There is no single mandated qualification, but the NDIA expects Level 3 specialist support coordination to be delivered by a suitably experienced practitioner — commonly allied health, mental health, or equivalent complex-case background — who can reduce barriers in the support environment. You must also hold registration group 0132 and pass audit against the Core Module plus the Specialist Support Coordination Module. Confirm the current audit requirements at ndiscommission.gov.au.
Is registration for support coordination mandatory in 2026?
It depends on the tier. Mandatory registration for standard support coordination (group 0106) was paused in December 2025 with no restart date. Specialist support coordination (group 0132) remains mandatory. Broader mandatory registration for high-risk supports begins rolling out from 1 July 2027.
How much can I bill for specialist support coordination?
As at the 2026-27 PAPL, the indicative price limit for Level 3 specialist support coordination is around $190.54 per hour, frozen for a seventh consecutive year. This is a maximum billing rate against a participant's plan, not a wage or a guaranteed amount. Always verify the current limit in the live NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
When does the open market for support coordination end?
Commissioned support coordination is scheduled to begin on 1 July 2028, replacing the open market with a commissioned panel, with design consultation in the second half of 2026. It is legislated through the Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 and depends on passage and a Senate inquiry reporting on 14 August 2026. Check health.gov.au/securingtheNDIS for the current position.
How do I manage conflict of interest as a specialist coordinator?
Offer and document genuine choice of provider, never default a participant to a related service, and keep your coordination billing clearly separate and traceable to file notes. The NDIA is actively scrutinising support coordination invoicing, especially brokerage and multi-support arrangements. Follow the NDIS Code of Conduct and check current expectations at ndiscommission.gov.au.
