Will the NDIS pay for my holiday?
No. The NDIS funds the disability support you need while you travel, such as a support worker, but not the holiday itself. Flights, accommodation, meals and activities are ordinary costs everyone has, so they are yours to pay.
Can my support worker come on holiday with me?
Yes, you may be able to take your support with you when you travel. Agree in advance what the worker will do and how it works away from home, and put it in your service agreement. Speak to your planner or support coordinator before booking.
Who pays for the support worker's flights and accommodation?
There may be additional costs of having a worker travel with you, and how these are handled follows the NDIS pricing arrangements and what you agree with the provider. The NDIS does not fund it as a holiday for the worker.
Are supported group holidays funded by the NDIS?
The disability support component can be, but the holiday costs — travel, accommodation, activities — are yours to pay, just as on any trip. Supported group holidays sit close to short breaks and camps, which we cover separately.
Should I tell the NDIS before I travel?
It is wise to talk to your planner, LAC or support coordinator before a trip that involves your supports, especially for longer trips or travel outside your usual area, so everyone is clear on what is covered.
How do I plan an accessible trip?
Choose accommodation with the accessibility you need and confirm details directly, plan how your support will work away, sort transport and equipment early, and budget clearly, separating your holiday costs from the disability support.
