What is the National Autism Strategy?
It is Australia's first national plan focused specifically on autistic people, running 2025-2031. Co-designed with autistic people and families, it sets a seven-year vision for inclusion across community life, employment, health, and services, backed by 22 commitments and staged action plans.
What are its main outcome areas?
The strategy focuses on social inclusion, economic inclusion, and diagnosis, services and supports — the areas where autistic people most often face barriers. A dedicated Autism Health Roadmap also targets improvements in physical and mental health care.
Is the strategy the same as NDIS funding?
No. It is a whole-of-society plan, not a funding program you apply to. Most autistic Australians are not on the NDIS, so the strategy aims to improve schools, workplaces, health and community life for everyone — while sitting alongside NDIS reforms like foundational supports.
