Does the NDIS fund a mealtime management plan?
Yes. A speech pathologist, and sometimes a dietitian or occupational therapist, assesses your swallowing and writes the plan, funded from your Capacity Building budget. Training your workers to follow the plan and reviewing it as your swallowing changes are funded too.
Who writes a mealtime management plan?
Usually a speech pathologist, who assesses your swallowing and sets out safe textures, positioning, pacing and warning signs. A dietitian may add nutrition guidance and an occupational therapist may advise on equipment. Your support workers are then trained to follow it exactly.
Does the NDIS pay for a swallowing assessment?
A clinical (bedside) swallowing assessment by a speech pathologist is generally funded through Capacity Building. But instrumental tests done in hospital, like a videofluoroscopy or FEES, are medical procedures that usually belong to the health system, not your NDIS plan.
Which budget covers the workers at mealtimes?
The worker time to prepare food to the right texture and support you safely at mealtimes comes from your Core budget. If your swallowing needs make this high-intensity, that worker time is claimed at the higher rate and workers must be trained against your plan.
How do I stop mealtime support running out mid-plan?
