How is NDIS SIL funding calculated?
SIL funding is built from a weekly Roster of Care — your support hours, the staff-to-participant ratio for each block of time, whether the time is day, evening, weekend or overnight, and whether overnight is active or a sleepover — priced against the NDIS price guide and annualised into your budget.
Why do housemates get different SIL amounts?
Because SIL is funded to each person's assessed need, not to the house. Someone who needs 1:1 personal care and active overnight support will be funded far more than a housemate who only needs shared evening supervision, even in the same home.
What is a support ratio in SIL?
It is the number of workers relative to residents. 1:1 means a worker dedicated to you; 2:1 means one worker shared between two residents so the cost is split; 1:3 means one worker supporting three people at once. Lower sharing costs more per person.
Does my SIL funding stay with me if I move?
Yes. SIL is funded to you as an individual based on your Roster of Care, so your funding moves with you if you change homes or providers — it is not tied to a particular house.
Can I see the SIL quote my provider submits?
Yes. You are entitled to see the Roster of Care and quote a provider submits to the NDIA. Ask for it in writing and check the hours, ratios and overnight type against your real week before the plan is finalised.
Does SIL funding cover my rent and food?
No. SIL pays for support workers, not living costs. Your rent, groceries and utility bills are yours to meet, usually from the Disability Support Pension and Commonwealth Rent Assistance. The specialist building itself, if you qualify, is funded separately as SDA.
Which budget does SIL come from?
SIL is funded from your Core supports budget. Other home-and-living needs — therapy, skill development and support coordination — sit in Capacity Building, and the specialist dwelling, if funded, sits in the Capital budget as SDA.
What happens to my SIL funding if my needs change mid-plan?
It is not adjusted automatically. If your support needs increase — more overnight care, or a housemate moving out changing your ratios — you can request a plan reassessment for a change of circumstances with updated evidence, and your Roster of Care is recalculated.
