Frequently asked questions

Can I change how my NDIS plan is managed?

Yes. You're not locked into your current setup. Changes are often made at a reassessment, when your plan is being looked at anyway, but can sometimes happen during a plan depending on your circumstances. Talk to your LAC, planner or the NDIA about the change you want and when it can take effect.

What's the difference between the three management types?

Agency-managed means the NDIA pays registered providers who claim directly, with the least admin for you but the least choice. Plan-managed means a plan manager pays providers and keeps the books, with good flexibility. Self-managed means you manage the funding and claim yourself, with the most…

Does plan management cost me part of my budget?

Generally no. The funding for a plan manager is included in your plan in addition to your support budgets, so choosing plan management usually doesn't reduce the funding you have for actual supports. It's one reason many people find plan management a comfortable balance of choice and support.

Should I self-manage my plan?

It depends on how much control you want versus how much admin and responsibility you're comfortable taking on. Self-management offers the most freedom, including using unregistered providers, but you handle claiming, keep detailed records, and may take on employer-type obligations if you engage…

Can I use different management types in one plan?

Yes. You can have different parts of your plan managed in different ways, for example self-managing one part while keeping another plan-managed or agency-managed. This lets you take control where you want it and keep things simple elsewhere. Your LAC or planner can help set this up.

How do I actually make the switch?

Decide which type you want and for which parts of your plan, then talk to your LAC, planner or the NDIA. Choose a plan manager if moving to plan management, confirm when the change takes effect, and update your providers so claiming continues smoothly. A support coordinator can guide you through it.
