What is the main difference between CHSP and Support at Home?
CHSP is entry-level, service-based help for people with low, stable needs — a few hours a week of specific services. Support at Home is budget-based, coordinated care for people with ongoing or growing needs, using a classification and quarterly budget planned with a provider.
Which one should I apply for?
You do not choose directly — your assessment through My Aged Care recommends the right program. If you are largely independent and need help with a few tasks, CHSP usually fits. If you need regular, ongoing support across several areas, Support at Home fits.
Is CHSP cheaper than Support at Home?
CHSP usually involves a modest fee per service, often a small hourly amount. Support at Home contributions depend on the service category and your income and assets, with clinical care free for everyone. What you pay depends on your needs and means under either program.
Is CHSP being replaced?
Yes, eventually. CHSP is planned to transition into Support at Home no earlier than July 2027. If you are on CHSP now, nothing changes yet and your services continue as normal until that transition happens. You do not need to do anything in the meantime.
