How do I register with My Aged Care?
Call 1800 200 422 or register online at myagedcare.gov.au. You answer a short screening conversation, provide identity and Medicare details, and are referred for an assessment. Registration takes about 15 to 20 minutes and is free.
Who is eligible to register?
Generally people aged 65 or older, or 50 or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Younger people on low incomes who are homeless or at risk may also qualify for some services. You can register on behalf of a family member with their consent.
What do I need to register?
Have the person's Medicare card, basic personal details, and a rough picture of the daily tasks they find difficult, such as showering, cooking or getting around. Details of current supports and health conditions also help the screening conversation.
What happens after I register?
Registration leads to a free assessment under the Single Assessment System, usually at home. The outcome decides what support the person is eligible for, and approvals come with referral codes you give to your chosen provider to start services.
