NDIS vs Aged Care: Which One Are You Eligible For?
The NDIS and aged care are two separate systems, mostly split by age. Here's who's eligible for which, and what happens as you get older.
The NDIS and Australia's aged care system both fund support to live well — but they're separate systems, and which one you use largely comes down to your age when you first need support. This guide explains the difference and what happens as you get older.

Frequently asked questions
Can I join the NDIS after 65?
Generally no. You must be under 65 when you first apply to the NDIS. If you're 65 or older and need support, the aged care system (starting with My Aged Care) is the pathway.
Do I have to leave the NDIS when I turn 65?
No. If you joined the NDIS before 65, you can choose to stay on it for life. You may move to aged care if you prefer, but it isn't compulsory.
Can I get both NDIS and aged care?
Not for the same supports — you can't be funded twice for one need. Which system you use depends mainly on your age when your support needs began.
