Is it true SIL doesn't pay rent?

Does having SIL mean I have to live in a group home?
No. SIL funds support, not a type of house. You can receive SIL living alone, with a partner, or sharing with housemates you choose. The idea that SIL means a traditional group home is a myth the Disability Royal Commission specifically challenged.
Can I change my SIL provider if it's not working?
Yes. You can choose your SIL provider and change them if the support isn't right, often without moving house, because SIL funds the support rather than the dwelling. Your support coordinator can help you explore alternatives and make the switch at a review.
Does everyone get the same amount of SIL?
No. There's no standard package. SIL is based on each person's assessed needs and roster of care, so two people in the same home can have very different funding. An occupational therapist's assessment and a clear picture of your day shape the funded hours.
