Frequently asked questions
Is the money in my NDIS plan mine to spend on anything?
No. It is funding set aside for supports that relate to your disability and are reasonable and necessary. You have real choice over who delivers those supports and how, but the funding cannot be used for everyday living costs everyone has. Our guide on what you can and cannot buy explains the…
Do I have to use all my funding?
There is no prize for spending every dollar, and no penalty for a modest underspend if your needs were met. The aim is to use your plan well. A large, unexplained underspend can prompt questions at reassessment, which we cover in the underspend guide.
How do I actually pay a provider?
It depends on your management type. NDIA-managed and plan-managed providers are paid without you handling money; self-managed means you pay and claim back. See paying invoices when self-managed for the step-by-step.
What if my plan does not seem to fit my life?
You can request a reassessment or, for smaller changes, a plan variation. Keep notes on what is and is not working, and talk to your planner, LAC or support coordinator before your plan ends.
Where can I see how much budget I have left?
In the my NDIS portal and app, and on statements from your plan manager if you have one. Checking every few weeks helps you pace your spending across the plan period.
