What is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?
CHSP is the entry-level tier of government-funded aged care at home. It gives mostly independent older people subsidised help with specific everyday tasks — like cleaning, meals, transport, social support and maintenance — so they can keep living safely and independently in their own homes.

Do I have to pay for CHSP?
CHSP is subsidised, not free. You are expected to contribute towards the cost, with the amount depending on the provider's fee policy and your circumstances. Financial hardship provisions exist if you genuinely cannot afford the contribution, so cost need not stop you getting help.
Is CHSP being replaced by Support at Home?
Eventually, but not yet. CHSP currently runs alongside Support at Home, and the government has said it will transition no earlier than 1 July 2027, with substantial notice beforehand. If you receive CHSP now, your services continue as normal for the time being.
