Requesting an Early Reassessment

How and when to request an early or unscheduled NDIS reassessment, what reasons support it, and the evidence that helps your request.

You do not always have to wait until your plan ends. If your needs have changed and your current plan no longer fits, you can ask for an early reassessment. This guide explains when that makes sense, how to make the request, and the evidence that gives it the best chance, so you can act calmly and clearly.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask for a reassessment before my plan ends?

Yes. This is called an early or unscheduled reassessment. If your needs have changed and your plan no longer fits, you can ask for one rather than waiting for the scheduled end date.

Is asking for an early reassessment the same as reporting a change?

They are closely linked. Reporting a change of circumstances is often the first step, and it may lead to an early reassessment or a plan variation, depending on what has changed. See Telling the NDIS Your Situation Has Changed.

Will the NDIA always agree to an early reassessment?

Not automatically. The NDIA considers your request and decides how to respond, which might be a full reassessment, a plan variation, or a request for more information. Clear evidence and a clear reason help.

What evidence should I provide?

Recent, relevant documents that show your circumstances have changed and how this affects your support needs, such as a therapy report or a letter about a change in your health or living situation. Evidence for a Reassessment has more detail.

Do my supports continue while I wait?

Generally yes. Your existing plan usually continues while the NDIA considers your request, so you are not left without support. If you are worried about a gap, raise it with your support coordinator or LAC.

What if my needs went up rather than down?

That is a common reason to ask. Our guide Reassessment When Your Needs Increase walks through the evidence and the request when you are seeking more support.
